Job Summary:

As GIS Project Manager you will serve an integral role in an award-winning GIS team supporting initiatives across the agency. Communication is key, as you will be providing project leadership and coordination remotely for a variety of GIS analysis/visualization, application, system, and data projects from inception to close-out. We seek to successfully implement radically simple and creative solutions that exceed our customer's expectations, keeping in line with the vision of ADEQ’s overall data and technology strategic direction.

We are looking for a team player who can effectively and efficiently organize projects, coordinate and allocate resources, track the logistics of tasks, and report the progress of projects to management and customers. ADEQ is not afraid of changing and updating processes to deliver the best products for our customers, so we would like to hire someone who can look for these areas of opportunity, especially with regards to our current project management system. Our team uses a variety of GIS approaches to execute projects of diverse scale and strategic importance to a broad customer base. Therefore, our ideal candidate is familiar with GIS processes and deliverables (especially those on AGOL/Enterprise), can direct projects with different organizational structures, and can communicate requirements and expectations among interdepartmental stakeholders.

Job Duties:

Major Responsibilities:
● Establish and adjust project management processes (software, framework, metrics, etc.) within the GIS team to support product development and delivery.
● Prepare project management plans including resource planning and team organization requirements. Manage multiple projects from initiation to closure according to the established project management plan.
● Interact with stakeholders to understand business requirements and the project team to determine project scope, budget estimates, schedule, and deliverables to ensure quality and timeliness of defined deliverables.
● Lead project management activities in coordination with GIS Manager and SMEs including project planning, status updates, stakeholder and management communications, reporting, risk identification and management, quality control, documentation, and close out.
● Identify and help address any blockers and scope changes affecting the delivery timeline. Record incidents and resolutions to build a catalog of lessons learned which can be used when managing future similar projects.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

● Working knowledge of/or ability to learn GIS systems, including spatial data and database management systems and development platforms; mapping software; mapping tools; and online spatial content portal systems.
● Knowledge of project management fundamentals, especially as relates to IT and GIS.
● Skill in determining and recommending best project management practices and processes to employ; explaining complex technical issues to non-technical customers, evaluating and translating a customer's business goals, objectives, and strategies into technical plans and solutions
● Ability to coordinate complex processes, multiple schedules, and reporting needs
● Ability to stay apprised of the latest advances in GIS

Selective Preference(s):

● Bachelor’s degree. Example disciplines include Geography, GIS, Computer Science, etc.
● 2-4 years of GIS and analysis/development experience (or equivalent IT experience).
● 2-4 years of experience in project management of GIS/IT projects.
● Certifications: PMP/CAPM, or ability to obtain within 9 months of hire; GISP a plus but not required
● Excellent organizational, analytical, and planning skills to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
● Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
