Job Summary:

The Grand Canyon Airport Janitor will work under general supervision and independently be responsible for the general cleanliness and maintenance of the Airport Terminal building and the surrounding grounds. Subsidized housing will be provided by the State.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning duties: bathrooms, vacuuming carpets, cleaning carpets, cleaning windows, dusting, vacant house move in/out cleaning, emptying trash cans, cleaning up rodent messes, airport litter patrol, disinfecting and heavy scrubbing.

  • Maintenance duties: changing light bulbs, painting doors, curbs, cross walks, picnic tables, benches, signposts, cleaning rain gutters.

  • Perform minor plumbing maintenance to include, but not limited to, the replacement of toilet parts (flappers, flush handles, water valves, etc.) unclogging drains.

  • Landscaping duties: erosion control, duff removal, raking, digging holes, trimming bushes, trees, burning slash piles, splitting wood, using riding mowers to cut grass, using string trimmers to cut grass, and pulling weeds by hand.

  • Perform periodic, standard inspections and report any repairs needed or safety items to the supervisor and assist FM & SG with the needed repairs.

  • Perform snow removal from all public areas using hand and power equipment, and will apply ice melt to all public walks during the winter months.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Proper and safe use of hand and power tools

  • Use and care of tools and equipment necessary to perform facility maintenance and repair tasks

  • General maintenance practices with repairs and basic handyman skills required to familiarize repairs for the facility

  • Airport security practices and procedures


Skills in:

  • Operate motorized equipment and tools

  • Performing minor plumbing/painting/handyman maintenance

  • Creating work schedules and prioritizing maintenance projects

  • Evaluating and determining hazards to work functions


Ability to:

  • Communicate orally and in writing with diverse populations

  • Resolve problems and questions associated with work methods and processes

  • Apply safety laws, rules, policies, as well as, National and local building code practices and procedures

  • Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time

  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others

  • Lift 50lbs.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

*Employment is contingent upon passing a medical/physical examination prior to appointment and maintaining those physical capabilities for the duration of employment and must be able to lift 50 lbs.

This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License. Candidates for this position must complete and sign PART 1 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR). The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.11 (H) and (I). The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT.
