Job Summary:

The Grants Projects Specialist coordinates a number of grants for the agency. The agency administers highway safety funds for the state on behalf of the Arizona governor's office of highway safety. Typical grants that the position administers range from 20-30 agencies (police departments, sheriff's, non-profits, other governmental agencies) covering anywhere from 20-50 grants across multiple program areas and covering upwards of a few million dollars.

This position, as a grant project specialist, ensures that funding is being spend appropriately (only on contracted items) and in a timely fashion (within the time parameters set in the contract). This is done through frequent monitoring, telephonically y or in person, of sub-grantees and reviewing complex financial statements including timesheets and bid sheets for equipment.

In addition to administering individual highway safety grants. this position plays an integral role in managing other projects and efforts on behalf of the agency as assigned by the agency director.

Job Duties:

Manage specific grants to ensure that funding is being spent appropriately (only on contracted items) and in a timely fashion (within the time parameters set in the contract). this is done through frequent monitoring, telephonically y or in person of the subgrantees and reviewing complex financial statements.

Other duties as assigned including oversight of the traffic record coordinating council and data recordings of crash facts from other agencies.

Selective Preference(s):
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred from accredited college or university.
  • knowledge of federal grant processes, including processing, administering and monitoring grants preferred.
