The Graphic Designer II will have strong creative and technical skills, and a portfolio of work which shows their professionalism and quality work. Under the direction of the Assistant Communication Director for Creative Services, this position will translate complex concepts into graphic designs and create a wide variety of material across digital and offline media, including construction project flyers, traffic maps, social media images and 3D animations. This position includes occasional, basic website editing using the Drupal content management system. The Graphic Designer II will work with a wide variety of customers and manage graphic design projects from concept to end product, maintaining the scope of the project to meet the client’s requirements, strategic objectives and deadlines.
Knowledge of:
Contemporary graphic design principles and typography
Contemporary principles of photographic imagery used for print and digital design
Principles of illustration
Proofreading
Copyright laws and ADA requirements
Web design, including the appropriate use of graphics and photos for websites
Content Management Systems, e.g. Drupal
Google Workspace
Skills in:
Computer graphic design using industry-standard software such as Adobe Creative Cloud suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro)
Conventional drawing and illustration
Creative, contemporary design
Evaluation of photography for artistic value and quality as well as proper resolution for printing or electronic display
Preparing print-ready artwork
Proper spelling and grammar, AP Style

Interpersonal relationships
Understanding of web and electronic communication components
Ability to:
Coordinate projects, manage and prioritize workload
Work under pressure of extreme deadlines, shifting priorities and last-minute changes
Successfully operate a variety of tools and equipment used in graphic and web design and publications work including plotters, printers and scanners
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
Three or more years as a graphic designer with web design and maintenance experience.
This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License. Candidates for this position must complete and sign PART 1 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR). The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.11 (H) and (I). The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT. Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR.
