The Arizona Department of Administration is actively recruiting a Groundskeeper Lead for the General Services Division (GSD). This position is responsible for landscaping and grounds maintenance to Arizona State Hospital. This position performs landscaping and grounds maintenance utilizing a variety of equipment including, but not limited to, various lawn mowers, power washers, landscape tractors, large front loaders, skid steers, scissor lifts and aerial lifts. This position performs a full range of landscaping tasks and duties such as pruning and maintenance of trees and bushes, maintaining plants, lawn maintenance including mowing, edging, removal of weeds, sprinkler system repair, and seasonal maintenance activities such as scalping, over seeding and fertilizing.
This position may coordinate activities with contractors and prepare weekly project/status reports for ongoing and completed projects including measures for performance and cost effectiveness. This position will create and implement new specifications (standard work) for landscaping tasks and frequencies as required to ensure the highest quality level of service is maintained; issues, trains, and monitors compliance with all safety policies and procedures including, but not limited to, material safety data sheets (MSDS) on the use of products, and personal protective equipment such as back support belts, gloves, and safety glasses.
Supervises, directs and performs audits to ensure that inmates and vendors are compliant with OSHA, MSDS, and any equipment training requirements; conducts daily briefings/debriefings; maintains proper levels of inventory and replaces equipment as required to ensure a safe and productive working environment. These responsibilities are carried out in full compliance with the security policies and procedures of the Department of Administration and the Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry for management of inmate crews.
Federal and State statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to areas of responsibility; principles and practices of supervision and personnel management; methods of personnel training; principles and practices of inventory control; purpose and use of MSDS; recommended use and practical application of safety equipment; recommended use and practical application of fertilizers and pest control materials; and security policies and procedures of the Department of Administration and the Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry for management of inmate crews.
Written and oral communications; personnel management; use of landscaping equipment including lifts, tractors, mowers, edgers, etc.; irrigation installation and repair; adapt to changing priorities and prioritize workload for team and self.
Communicate effectively with staff and upper management; conduct business in an appropriate professional business manner; provide excellent customer service; lead and direct projects; effectively supervise inmates and cooperatively work with others; and adapt to changing priorities.
