Job Summary:

This position serves as a Senior Disease Investigator in the Office of Disease Integration & Services. This position shall be responsible for quality assurance and technical assistance for all ongoing HIV and STD investigations in the State of Arizona. This position works under the direction of the HIV/STD CDI Coordinator, providing technical assistance to local disease investigation partners to ensure timely and quality case investigation, data collection, and disease intervention, especially for syphilis and congenital syphilis. This position will periodically travel to assist rural jurisdictions to assist with case investigation and providing subject matter expertise. This position may be required to participate in after-hours activities including, but not limited to, partner meetings, investigation, outbreak, and emergency response, as needed. This position participates in writing grants and other funding proposals.

This position may provide administrative leadership and technical guidance to administrative support staff and data entry specialists, as assigned. The employee will be expected to make independent decisions and judgments based on their professional education, programmatic experience, and training. This position is responsible for maintaining confidential information and adhering to strict data security and confidentiality protocols.

Job Duties:

- Participating in the outbreak and other disease investigations by responding to calls from tribal and county disease investigators; providing subject matter expertise and guidance for ongoing case investigation; providing training to rural jurisdictions; interviewing patients, health care providers, and others involved; and assisting in collecting data from local agencies or other health agencies.
- Providing quality assurance review for data and case follow-up of all high-priority cases (children < 5 with syphilis, pregnant women with syphilis, women of childbearing age with syphilis, persons with infectious syphilis, etc.).
- Developing and providing tools to improve the timeliness and efficacy of case investigation and disease intervention.
- Conducting literature reviews, preparing manuscripts, and participating in grant writing activities.
- Participating in after-hours activities, including partner meetings, investigation, outbreak, and emergency response as needed.

Selective Preference(s):

Bachelors degree and minimum of 1-year experience as an HIV/STD Communicable Disease Investigator. Associates degree and 3 years of experience as an HIV/STD Communicable Disease Investigator is also acceptable.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employees who drive on state business require possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete any driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11).

Retirement:

To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit. The State will make a contribution to the ASRS in an amount equal to your contribution. In other words, you and the State will each pay 50% of the total cost of the benefit.
