Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 6:00am – 2:30pm
Duties and basic tasks of the Transport driver include; operation of motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, delivery of equipment and materials, and minor service repairs. Depending on area of assignment, this position may encounter inclement weather conditions, potential work in hazardous road conditions. Work will require time away from home base. Work in rugged terrain, and high speed traffic conditions. Overtime may be required; including working outside of normal reporting hours. Requires some travel away from duty post. Transports vehicles and large construction equipment, tractor transport. Has authority decision making on work methods and techniques. Considerable on-the-job training learning the scope of duties and basic tasks.
Transports vehicles and equipment including but not limited to light-duty vehicles, loaders, dozers, motor graders, large trucks, large trailers, variable message boards, cone trucks, power booms, water tankers, rollers, oil boots, attenuators and any other similar equipment, Includes the required maintenance checks, minor servicing to comply with the laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
Processes and performs day to day work activities as requested by supervisors, and managers.
Pick up and deliver parts and related materials to statewide shops.
Knowledge of:
• Procedures, practices and methods of operation, preventive maintenance and minor repair of vehicles and equipment.
• Federal, State and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to work activities, safety practices and public contact/customer service practices.
• Materials, chemicals, equipment and tools used in work activities.
• Established work methods and standards.
• Procedures and practices established for the work section.
• Math, accounting, English, grammar, computer systems such as Google Workspace.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Office procedures, procurement, inventory and customer service.
Skill in:
• Apply and make interpretations of federal, state, and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to work activities, safety practices and public contact/customer service practices.
• Communicate effectively.
• Comprehend and give directions.
• Read, interpret and apply specifications and drawings.
• Inspect materials and products for acceptance.
• Make decisions with established procedures and practices of work section.
• Work under stressful conditions.
Ability to:
• Use and train on the use of proper materials and tools, vehicles and equipment specific to work activity.
• Plan, coordinate, analyze, and perform multiple tasks.
• Pass a physical exam.
Six years of experience in a related field.
Position requires a Class "A" Commercial Driver's license (CDL) . Must retain said license during the period of employment.
A medical/physical evaluation and drug test is required prior to appointment.
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
