Job Summary:

This position tracks and develops regional performance measures and metrics, assesses methods of best capturing data to depict the ongoing improvements within the regional signing and striping operations, displays and documents the findings accordingly. Performs duties such as delivering signing and striping material , assets and equipment throughout the state to provide the most effective and efficient methods of accomplishing work; confers with agency staff; supervises staff.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

This position tracks and develops regional performance measures and metrics, assesses methods of best capturing data to depict the ongoing improvements within the regional signing and striping operations, displays and documents the findings accordingly.

Performs duties such as delivering signing and striping material , assets and equipment throughout the state to provide the most effective and efficient methods of accomplishing work; confers with agency staff; gathers information to define needs and carries out program activities effectively as it pertains to our statewide signing and striping operation.

This technical specialist performs a variety of duties in the areas of highway location, reviews accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks recommends approval/disapproval of work procedures.This position will provide support services to the Regional Signing and Striping units, may approve/disapprove work performed and may direct activities of consultants, contractors or subordinate ADOT staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Review and analysis of data related to highway sign fabrication installation and inspection.
  • Knowledge of striping inspection methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of highway striping materials testing procedures.
  • Agency standards, policies and procedures applicable to highway maintenance.
  • Google Platform.
  • Knowledge-Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Power/drive train system inspection, diagnosis and repair procedures.
  • Electronic control systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
  • Computerized diagnostic procedures.
  • Hydraulic systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
  • Operating principles of gasoline and diesel powered internal combustion engine.

SKILLS IN:

  • Analyzing and evaluating a wide variety of data.
  • Researching, reading, and interpreting a variety of technical documents such as survey data, highway plans, blueprints, specifications, and computer generated data.
  • Organizing and prioritizing work assignments.
  • Repairing and maintaining mechanical, electrical, electronic and automotive/heavy signing and striping equipment.
  • Operating computerized diagnostic analyzer equipment.
  • Scheduling/coordinating automotive/heavy construction equipment service and repair to maximize utilization.

ABILITY TO:

  • Use computational and adjustment factors.
  • Use mathematical computations.
  • Communicate written and orally.
  • Safely drive a full-size pickup truck and various other equipment on and off-road.
  • Work outdoors for extended time, exposed to heat, cold, dust and noise.
  • Maintain professional, productive interpersonal relations with all partners and stakeholders.
  • Carry out assignments without direct supervision and learn new skills.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Interpret repair manuals.
  • Utilize a PC and PC programs such as Google Workspace and Microsoft office.
  • Manage time effectively.
  • Utilize data collected and provided to create informational spreadsheets and visual representations of that data.
Selective Preference(s):

Three years of journey level experience diagnosing and repairing a variety of equipment and machinery along with Equipment and Automotive Service of Excellence (ASE) is preferred.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Current Valid AZ Drivers Licence - This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
