This position is responsible for performing work associated with the supervision of employee’s processing workers’ compensation benefits and may be required to perform the duties of the team members for the following Special Fund programs: No Insurance, Bankrupt Self-Insured, Pre-1973 supportive care, Vocational Rehabilitation and Apportionment Claims. File handling of expert level professional claims management of the following status’: time loss, permanent impairment, permanently awarded (as defined by a Loss of Earning Capacity award and/or Support Care), apportionment and vocational rehabilitation.
The candidate appointed to this position will work closely with the management team, with limited supervision under the Special Fund Manager and/or Special Fund Assistant Manager to oversee the daily operations and staff of the Special Fund division to create and maintain a positive team culture focused on proactive claims management.
• Arizona workers’ compensation statues, rules of procedure, regulations, Court of Appeals and Supreme Court decisions regarding workers’ compensation law.
• Workers’ compensation claims processing procedures and best practices.
• Federal and State vocational rehabilitation laws.
• State personnel rules.
• Medical terminology, treatment protocols and Occupational Disability Guidelines.
• Federal laws such as Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), American with Disability Act,
Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Social Security rules and
regulations as they might relate to workers’ compensation issues.
• Insurance industry claims adjusting standards and practices.
• General knowledge of other State agencies, such as Department of Insurance and their
role in the workers’ compensation process.
• Process and information management principles and practices, including the use of
technology to improve processes.
• Organizational, analytical, managerial and supervision.
• Entry level business acumen, management skills including workflows and information
• Leadership and time management.
• Verbal and written communication.
• Advanced computer usage to include Microsoft Office and Google programs.
• Instructional training and presentation.
• Plan, direct and evaluate employee performance and build a strong positive team culture.
• Analyze and resolve complex insurance claims matters with claimants, attorneys,
employers, insurance carriers and third-party administrators.

Arizona Driver's License:
Must possess valid Arizona Driver's License. Required In-state and out-of-state travel is required. Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must complete any required driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207 (12). Employees may be required to use their own transportation, as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.
