We are seeking a talented and engaged intern who is working toward their undergraduate degree and wants to develop beyond the classroom! This Intern position will be assigned to our Assurance group in Financial Services and work under general supervision of the Audit Administrator, Audit Manager, and/or Assurance Staff. You will perform professional accounting and audit work requiring the practical application of accounting and auditing principles, theories, concepts, practices and policy reference materials. You will also work on basic accounting and/or audit assignments including collaborating with Assurance Staff members on identifying audit opportunities and the development of professional critical thinking skills in analyzing internal controls.
You will assist the Assurance Staff in developing draft procedures and reports associated with accounting and audit work. Lastly, you'll be responsible for reviewing Contractor Expenditure Report (CER) and vendor invoice expenditures to ensure compliance with Federal, State and ADHS policies, and financial contract requirements.
- Hands-on experience in reviews of CER and vendor invoices for expense compliance with Federal, State and ADHS policies, and financial contract requirements.
- The opportunity to manage the flow of properly supported CERs / vendor invoices to responsible Assurance Staff to resolve identified errors with agency management to ensure payment policy compliance.
- Accounting and/or audit assignments using analysis of standard internal control structures and policy reference materials.
- Collaboration with the Assurance Staff in developing draft procedures and reports associated with the accounting and audit work performed.
- Assist the Audit Administrator, Audit Manager and Assurance Staff in other accounting/audit areas during peak activity periods and during absences of other staff members.
- You will be coached and mentored by the Audit Administrator, Audit Manager and/or Assurance Staff by collaborating on group projects.
Working towards a BS degree in accounting, finance or closely related field.
- Understanding of basic accounting/auditing principles.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), and Google suite.
- Strong interest in public service and improving State government.
- Strong research abilities as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to synthesize information and reach conclusions.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to interact with coworkers and auditees professionally and ethically.
