Maternal and Child Health Systems Intern

Job Summary:

The intern will work in conjunction with community partners to design and implement a Black maternal and child health needs assessment or health status report. The intern will have an opportunity to support statewide maternal health improvement initiatives, including participating in our statewide Maternal Health Task Force and other community engagement opportunities. This opportunity will support our annual updates to the statewide Arizona Maternal and Child Health Needs Assessment as part of our Title V MCH Block Grant activities.

Job Duties:
  •  Reviewing and synthesizing existing data on Black maternal and child health outcomes in Arizona.
  • Conducting stakeholder outreach and supporting community engagement activities to identify opportunities for data collection, analysis, and interpretation of findings.
  • Lead the design of survey tools, interview guides, or other assessment instruments as necessary for the completion of the project.
  • Conduct data collection and analysis activities with guidance from the site preceptor and supervisor.
  • Preparing a document summary, infographics, and presentations for stakeholders on the assessment’s findings. 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Practical experience in community-engaged public health assessment.
  • Skills in designing and conducting a health needs assessment.
  • Enhanced understanding of Black maternal and child health issues in Arizona.
  • Experience in preparing applied research for dissemination to stakeholders.
  • Strengthened communication and collaboration skills with community and academic partners.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Familiarity with public health data sources, needs assessments, and health disparities.
  • Cultural humility and interest in promoting positive health outcomes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with community partners and agency staff.
Pre-Employment Requirements:

Working toward graduate degree. Master’s level student in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Promotion, or a related field.
