Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is seeking a Lean Coach who possesses expertise in lean principles and tools, along with strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement. The ideal candidate should be a proactive problem solver dedicated to driving organizational success. This position plays a vital and influential role within the ADJC, primarily focusing on facilitating coordination of lean management systems and projects at the agency, bureau, or team levels. Key responsibilities include designing and delivering training, coaching and mentoring staff members, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement that actively involves all team members. Additionally, the Lean Coach may lead lean projects and support others in doing so. Another aspect of the role involves overseeing and analyzing regular continuous improvement assessments to identify areas for enhancement, then providing customized training to address these areas. Lastly, the Lean Coach collaborates closely with the Continuous Improvement Bureau Administrator to spearhead the development of the agency’s strategic plan, with a focus on defining performance objectives, metrics and initiatives. Candidates for this position should demonstrate mastery of lean tools and principles, with a successful track record of improvement initiatives at the bureau or agency level.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

• Coordinate lean management system implementation and maturity
• Conduct trainings, provide coaching, and mentor staff for continuous improvement culture
• Lead and support lean projects
• Oversee and analyze continuous improvement assessments
• Collaborate with Continuous Improvement Bureau Administrator on agency strategic plan
• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

• Proficiency in LEAN tools and principles
• Familiarity with strategic planning processes
• Knowledge of key performance indicators (KPIs) and how to track and measure progress towards strategic objectives

Skill in:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience in project management
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Experience in using various data tracking, visualization, and presentation software (Google Suites and Microsoft Suites)

Ability to:

• To lead and influence others in lean management principles
• Capacity to use data and metrics to inform decision-making and drive improvements
• To interpret data trends and patterns visually and translate them into actionable insights
• To envision long-term goals and align lean efforts with the organization’s strategic vision
• To work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and foster a culture of cooperation and continuous improvement
• To mentor and coach staff effectively
• Adaptability and flexibility to handle changing priorities
• Work in a correctional environment
• Drive on state business

Selective Preference(s):

Selective preference will be given to those with a bachelor’s degree or higher, demonstrated experience in developing strategic plans, and certification in continuous improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma Green Belt or higher, Lean or similar.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function on the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license records checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.010).
