Job Summary:

The Arizona Attorney General's Office Child and Family Protection Division is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary to provide support to one or more Assistant Attorneys General in the Protective Services Section which includes preparation of all legal pleadings and documents necessary to process dependency/severance cases on behalf of the client.

Job Duties:

The incumbent of this position will be responsible for drafting and typing correspondence; initiating, tracking, and completing service of process; answering inquiries from the client, court personnel and others regarding case activity and status; inputting data into and using an automated case management system to maintain and track case records and activity; independently generating legal forms needed in all types of actions; maintaining court calendar and legal deadlines; preparing documents and legal memoranda; and other projects assigned, including transcription. Duties also include reviewing, creating, and processing materials and information that are confidential pursuant to federal and state laws.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):


  • Knowledge of word processing equipment and programs, legal terminology, legal forms, court procedures and applicable time-frames, in general and specifically
  • Extensive knowledge of Juvenile Court Rules related to dependency, severance and guardianship practice, the principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques common to modern law office.


  • Typing at least 60 WPM
  • Oral and written communication
  • Interpersonal relationships
  • Manage/handle a heavy work load under time pressure with multiple deadlines
  • Must be able to handle a high volume of work and stressful situations


  • Ability to operate word processor for preparation of legal documents
  • Ability to track and follow through on voluminous court actions in various states
  • Ability to utilize automated case management systems and follow office procedures for maintaining and tracking records
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform varied tasks and track multiple deadlines simultaneously
Selective Preference(s):

Two years’ experience as a Legal Secretary; or completion of post high school legal secretary/paralegal-training program may substitute for one of the legal secretary experience.

• Travel may be required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver’s License is required, along with consent to have your driving record run periodically.
