Job Summary:

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office Child and Family Protection Division/Civil & Criminal Litigation and Advice Section is seeking a Legal Secretary II to provide secretarial support for one or more Assistant Attorney Generals.

Job Duties:

Preparation of legal pleadings and documents necessary to process cases on behalf of the client; drafting and typing correspondence; answering inquiries from the client, court personnel and others regarding case activity and status; inputting data into and using an automated case management system to maintain and track case records and activity; independently generating legal forms needed in all types of actions; maintaining court calendar and legal deadlines; preparing documents and legal memoranda; preparing hard-copy case files; electronically filing pleadings with the Office of Administrative Hearings, DES Appeals Board, Personnel Board, Municipal and Superior Courts; and other projects as assigned. Duties involve reviewing, creating and processing materials and information that are confidential pursuant to federal and state laws.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge needed:
Knowledge and understanding of applicable statutes, rules and regulations of state and federal court and administrative tribunals.
Knowledge of word processing equipment, legal terminology, legal forms, court procedures and applicable time-frames, in general, and extensive knowledge of the principles, concepts, practices, methods, and techniques common to a modern law office.

Skills needed:
Typing at least 60WPM
Oral and written communication
Interpersonal relationships
Manage/handle a heavy work load under time pressure with multiple deadlines.

Abilities needed:
Ability to handle a high volume of work and stressful situations.
Ability to operate word processor for preparation of legal documents.
Ability to track and follow through on voluminous court actions.
Ability to utilize automated case management systems and follow office procedures for maintaining and tracking records.
Ability to organize, prioritize and perform varied tasks and track multiple deadlines simultaneously.

Selective Preference(s):

Ideal Candidates will have two years of experience as a Legal Secretary; or an Associates of Arts degree from an accredited college or university; or completion of a post high school legal secretary/paralegal training program may substitute for one-year of the legal secretary experience.

• Travel may be required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver’s License is required, along with consent to have your driving record run periodically.
