Job Summary:

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office State Government Division/Licensing Enforcement Section is seeking a Legal Secretary II to provide legal secretarial support and related work to numerous attorneys in the Licensing & Enforcement Section.

Job Duties:

This position will prepare legal correspondence, memoranda, pleadings, briefs, legal opinions, and various reports to assist in the attorneys' case work. The employee is also responsible for various other tasks to relieve the attorneys from office administrative detail. Attorneys in the Licensing & Enforcement Section provide legal advice and other services to a variety of State Agencies. This Legal Secretary will provide direct assistance to numerous section attorneys in different practice areas depending on assignment (which may change as business dictates), and provide backup assistance to at least two other legal secretaries.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of formats for a wide variety of legal documents;
Knowledge of rules and procedures of all Arizona State courts and a variety of federal and appellate courts;
Knowledge of the attorney/client relationship, including the need for confidentiality and discretion;
Knowledge of State and office procedures, including the acquisition of case-related expenses and current travel policies;
Knowledge of office policy as to format and procedures;
Knowledge of State and office policy for making and documenting travel arrangements.
Skill in typing, proofreading, and word/data processing;
Skill in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and basic editing;
Skill in composing correspondence;
Skill in effective oral and written communication;
Skill in the utilization of word processing programs for efficient and accurate formatting for final document production;
Skill in inter personal relations necessary for effective team work, cooperation, and conflict resolutions.
Ability to handle a large volume of work with competing deadlines;
Ability to prioritize workload by numerous attorneys;
Ability to assist attorney(s) with organization of materials for trial preparation.

Selective Preference(s):

Due to the complexity of cases worked in the section, significant prior experience as a legal secretary preferred, generally two or more years with civil litigation experience.
