Job Summary:

This position has responsibility for the daily operation of the agency LAN/WAN networks, including resolving issues and performing network maintenance. This position will monitor, identify and eliminate internal and external security threats to agency networks and will administer security and network procedures. When required, this position will modify policies and procedures which are necessary to assure the continued effective operation of agency networks.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Information Technology architectural design, concepts and techniques.
  • Arizona Revised Statutes.
  • State government organization, operations, processes and procedures.
  • Computer network and desktop systems operation such as would be acquired through successfully completing one or more computer science degree programs, which may have included general computer and information sciences, systems security, systems analysis, system networking and/or telecommunications.
  • Network administration software, such as Tanium and other network analyzers included in Cisco products, port analyzer adapters and throughput testers.
  • Network security or virtual private network VPN management software as well as MFA and anti-virus products as appropriate.
  • Operating systems software programs, such as Microsoft Hyper-V Server, Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365 and Windows PowerShell.
  • Azure Cloud: account set-up, directory basic roles, virtual networking, virtual machines, site recovery.
  • Microsoft SQL Server, Server 2012 and newer.

Skill in:

  • Strong project management skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Network monitoring and determining trends of network use to anticipate need for increased data storage, server replacement or speed enhancements.
  • Identifying anomalies in network operations and potential network vulnerabilities.
  • Written and oral communication skills to present information and recommendations to managers and system users.

Ability to:

  • Communicate information and ideas when speaking so others will understand.
  • Create and assess Information Technology initiatives.
  • Effectively establish rapport, advise and interface with agency heads and senior-level staff.
  • Manage complex projects.
  • Use diagnostic and testing equipment and software to identify the causes of networking problems and recommend/implement solutions.
  • Install and test computer and network equipment and software; ability to integrate new equipment and software enhancements to existing network.
  • Train users in network, equipment and software use.
  • Set priorities to minimize disruption to network operations and to meet project deadlines.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Completion and award of a Bachelor's degree in computer sciences.
