Oversees the Office of Support Services and Operations. Establishing policies, planning, coordinating, managing, and evaluating all activities for major programs; including budget preparation and approval of purchases, management of subordinate staff, and responsible for equipment, procedures, reports, policies, safety, and technical guidance. Leads the planning and implementation of programs within the office. Recommends process or service improvements. Solves unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the organization. Contributes to the development of functional strategy. Provides advice and counsel to the organization in the area of expertise. Leads project teams to achieve milestones and objectives. Provides expert testimony. Approves report. This position may be required to perform work at/attend meetings at alternate locations and/or travel (in and out of state) when necessary, possibly requiring a state, personal or rented vehicle.
- Organize, plan, and direct all activities within the Office of Support Services and Operations. Ensure effective coordination of activities across areas. Oversee internal and external outreach activities including interactions with partners. Monitor and report on all aspects of the programs.
- Oversee budget and/or grant for the program, Oversee performance reviews of the staff, Manage/lead/hire staff, Analyzes and oversee feedback from clients on services, Generate and present, as needed, reports on key performance indicators for the program.
- Receive and answer inquiries about program issues. Resolve complaints both internal and external.
- Provide verbal and written consultation to ADHS, other governmental agencies, and the industry concerning technical issues and interpretation of rules and regulations.
Knowledge of:
Federal regulations and Arizona Revised
Statutes related to laboratory testing, general
laboratory procedures, good understanding
of laboratory management and operational
concepts, budget management, specialized
laboratory procedures, laboratory safety
precautions emphasis when working with
infectious agents and or hazardous
materials, performance management,
continuous quality improvement and Lean
methodologies

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science or related field plus 6+ years experience professional work experience with at least 2 years of supervisory or lead capacity experience.
- Employees who drive on state business require possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete any driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11).
