The Park Assistant Manager role provides leadership and support to park staff. They supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for developing and implementing standards and training for safety and customer service, and will provide policy input for safety, customer service, public park operations and park staffing for the public use of the various areas of the facility. The position conducts and/or may assist in performance evaluation reviews, hiring, and all associated administrative duties relating to assigned staff.
- Provide direct supervision for the daily Contact Station operations. Resolve staff and customer issues, coordinate any emergency or first responder efforts and report to the Park Manager regarding all functions and activities on the park. Business operation responsibilities include but, not exclude, inventories, troubleshooting, banking, re-caps, approving invoices and ordering. This position will oversee all training in the contact stations. Commercial pass program lead, special use permits, and similar. Coordinate and perform tasks related to reporting, cash handling and POS system.
- Provide guidance in handling complex customer issues and/or resolving escalated customer complaints or disputes. Serve as a designated representative of the park to patrons, businesses and local audiences as needed.
- Responsible for the direct supervision of appointed staff. Assist in administrative and supervisory responsibilities including hiring, disciplinary actions, directing the agenda for staff meetings, performance reviews, one-on-ones, and ensure that staff support materials such as handbooks, policy manuals and checklists are current and updated as needed. Place orders if needed using the state procurement process.
- Coordinate with Park Manager to balance daily staffing allocation to accommodate facility wide needs across a spectrum of tasks including, staff and customer service. Take the lead on any committee or group as appointed by management.
Knowledge of:
Outdoor recreation and park management, complex safety, security, sanitation, operation-maintenance, and public relations procedures and practices. Park safety and education information. Security matters, state laws, department policies, facility operational standards, and emergency response procedures. Facility procedures. Supervisory skills relevant to supervising employees and volunteers and special assignment personnel. A business acumen incorporating revenue tracking and budgets, Employee Public Health and Public Relation tasks. Knowledge of fees and revenue functions, general office procedures and outdoor parks and recreation. May require knowledge of Arizona Revised Statutes and law enforcement techniques.

Be an effective management team member and correctly convey the management directions to subordinate employees. Resolve conflicts or issues as they arise with customers and staff. Interact effectively with a wide variety of customers visiting the facility and successfully meeting their needs. Develop and teach training curriculum for customer service, park safety, park operations.
An ideal candidate would have Bachelor’s Degree in the area of Park Management, Natural Resource Management, Recreation, or closely related field. 3+ years’ Experience in park management, managing staff, budget, park operations and volunteers will be considered.
- Must maintain a current CPR certification
- Must have a valid Arizona driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
