Under general direction of regional manager, manages the operations of Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, a high-profile historic and cultural site within Arizona State Parks and Trails. Provides strategic leadership through subordinate staff, overseeing operational planning, personnel management, budget development and control, policy implementation, and contract administration. Ensures public safety, protection of cultural and historical resources, and compliance with agency standards and applicable laws. Represents the park in coordination with community partners, stakeholders, and agency leadership, and advances interpretive programming and visitor engagement initiatives consistent with the park’s historic mission.
Strategic Leadership & Museum Administration
Oversees and administers operations for Tubac Presidio State Historic Park with primary responsibility for museum operations, cultural resource stewardship, and preservation standards. Develops, implements, and updates annual operating plans integrating collections management, interpretation,special events and visitor services. Ensures adherence to agency policies, professional museum standards, and applicable laws.
Collections & Curatorial Oversight
Ensures proper stewardship, documentation, and preservation of museum collections, artifacts, and archives. Oversees exhibit development and historical interpretation to ensure accuracy, academic integrity, and compliance with established museum practices.
Leadership & Supervision
Directs, instructs, and evaluates subordinate staff and volunteers. Plans, prioritizes, and assigns duties; resolves personnel matters; fosters professional development and a preservation-centered work culture.
Park Operations & Facility Oversight
Manages daily park operations including visitor services, facility maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance. Conducts routine inspections of grounds and facilities to ensure security, preservation, and public safety.
Budget & Administrative Management
Prepares and manages operational budgets; approves purchases in accordance with procurement guidelines; monitors contracts and agreements; prepares required financial and operational reports.
Community & Partnership Engagement
Maintains positive relationships with stakeholders, volunteers, and community partners; represents the park at meetings and public forums; supports collaborative initiatives that advance the park’s mission.

Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of budget development and control and fiscal management; state administrative rules, regulations and procedures; agency policies and procedures; facility planning and development techniques; methods of museum park operations and resource planning; various types of park recreational activities; specialized utility services (wells, treatment plants, etc.); law enforcement practices; private and public lease and management agreement procedures.
Skill in:
Work management and leadership techniques; verbal and written communication; public safety techniques; organizing and supervising technical staff; tasks associated with building and grounds maintenance; problem solving techniques; first aid techniques; public relations; developing and maintaining good interpersonal relationships.

One year of experience equivalent to a Park Manager 1 or Park Operations Coordinator, OR two years of experience equivalent to a Park Ranger 4, OR three years equivalent to a Park Ranger 3. A Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, Park Management, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, History, Archaeology, Geology, Ecology, Recreation Planning, or closely related field may substitute for one year of the Park Ranger 4 or 3 experience.
Must possess and maintain an Arizona Driver's license appropriate to the assignment at time of appointment. First Aid/CPR/AED withing 90 days
