Job Summary:

Under management supervision, performs a variety of work activities while providing customer service in the operation of a recreational, historic or natural resource park; interprets natural features of the area, or historic objects/artifacts for visitors; and ensures public safety by enforcing Park rules and regulations. - This position will serve as a potential, interpretative speaker, and park office administrator.

Job Duties:

Staff Leadership & Supervision - Train, mentor, and supervise park staff and volunteers to ensure high performance, professionalism, and adherence to park standards. Ensure the safety of staff and visitors by enforcing safety protocols, responding to incidents, and proactively identifying and addressing hazards.

Customer Service/Communication - Support positive visitor experiences by providing information, resolving issues, and ensuring a welcoming and inclusive park environment. Interpret, communicate, and enforce park rules, policies, and procedures while educating staff and the public to promote compliance and understanding.

Cash Handling - Perform cashier duties at Contact Station/Gift Shop; collect and account for fees for park admission and store purchases. Process refunds, take camping and event reservations via phone. Prepare and process bank deposits, maintain accurate financial records, and complete weekly deposit reports in accordance with administrative procedures. Order, track, and manage supplies and equipment to ensure operational needs are met efficiently and within budget.

Public & Staff Safety - Promote the safety of park visitors, educate guests and enforce park rules, protect park resources, utilize two-way radio communications system, confers with local officials and law enforcement officers, completes all necessary reports concerning incidents. Promotes and educates guests on safe recreation practices and recreational opportunities in the park. Deliver ongoing training for staff and volunteers on safety procedures, park operations, customer service, and equipment use

Community Outreach and Engagement - Collaborate, foster, and maintain a positive relationship with visitors, guests, stakeholders, and partners on behalf of the park. and makes sure they uphold the agency's mission Ensures volunteers are trained on proper park procedures and rules. Assist in planning, organizing, and overseeing park events and programs to ensure smooth operations and positive visitor experiences.

Maintenance - Assign, monitor, and ensure completion of maintenance projects by staff in a timely and effective manner, maintaining park facilities and grounds to required standards. Deliver ongoing training for staff and volunteers on safety procedures, park operations, and equipment use.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
Park policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance
Workplace and public safety standards, including risk management
Staff supervision, training, and volunteer coordination
Basic maintenance operations and facility upkeep processes
Safe use and oversight of tools and equipment (e.g., chainsaws, maintenance tools)
Inventory control and supply ordering procedures
Event coordination and visitor services operations
Basic financial procedures, including deposits and reporting
Customer service and public communication in a high-traffic environment
Principles of environmental stewardship and park resource protection

Skill in:
Leadership and team supervision in an outdoor or public service environment
Strong communication skills for staff training, visitor education, and conflict resolution
Ability to enforce rules and policies fairly while maintaining positive public relations
Operational planning and coordination of maintenance activities and staff assignments
Safety leadership, including hazard identification and enforcement of safety protocols
Technical skills in basic park maintenance and oversight of tools/equipment use
Organizational skills for managing supplies, schedules, and reporting tasks
Event coordination and ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy environment
Financial accuracy in handling deposits and preparing basic reports
Problem-solving and decision-making under pressure in dynamic field conditions

Ability to:
Lead, supervise, and motivate staff and volunteers in a field-based environment
Work effectively in high-traffic and fast-paced public settings
Ensure consistent enforcement of park rules while maintaining positive visitor relations
Identify, assess, and respond to safety hazards and emergency situations
Train staff on policies, procedures, safety practices, and equipment use
Coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks such as maintenance, events, and daily operations
Operate in outdoor environments and perform or oversee physical maintenance activities
Manage supplies, track inventory, and support operational logistics
Complete accurate financial tasks such as deposits and basic reporting
Communicate clearly and professionally with diverse staff and park visitors
Make sound decisions under pressure with limited supervision

Selective Preference(s):

Two years experience equivalent to a Park Ranger, OR three years of work experience in customer service and maintenance in park related setting; OR a Bachelor's degree in Park Management, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field. Any combination of training and experience that meet knowledge, skills, abilities may be substituted.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver's license appropriate to assignment. Some positions may require certification as an Emergency Medical Technician, Grade 1 Water Distribution Systems Operator, and/or Certified Interpretive Guide,First Aide CPR.
