Would you like to use your financial expertise to assist with performance audits of State agencies, boards, and universities? Our Performance Audit Division needs an experienced financial professional who is familiar with government auditing standards, can perform financial-related audit work and develop helpful financial tables for our reports, and can provide performance auditors with financial-related support and expertise in their work. Job Duties:

As a senior financial analyst, you will assist performance audit teams with designing and/or conducting work when financial expertise is needed and develop helpful financial tables and graphics for performance audit reports. You may also help determine the appropriate level of evidence needed to support audit finding information and ensure compliance with the U.S. Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) Government Auditing Standards on financial and nonfinancial matters and provide the team with any assistance needed, including performing and reviewing audit work.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

• A bachelor's degree in accounting with a minimum of 150 hours according to the Arizona Board of Accountancy.
• A master’s degree in accounting.
• 3 years of financial auditing experience.
• CPA license preferred. Candidates without a CPA license must obtain the license within 24 months of hire.

A demonstrated proficiency and capability of an experienced technical financial audit professional to perform advanced and more difficult work.

The ideal candidate will also have the following:
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, and lead and empower others in a professional and respectful manner.
• Ability to help ensure audit teams identify financial-related audit objectives and issues, and perform or lead and supervise others to perform the necessary and appropriate audit work to address audit objectives and issues and reach sound conclusions based on the audit work.
• Knowledge and understanding of governmental accounting standards, government accounting principles, and the U.S. GAO’s Government Auditing Standards. Also, knowledge and understanding of the U.S. GAO’s Standards for Internal Control in Federal Government is preferred.
• Strong research abilities and exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Highest level of integrity by following professional auditing standards, building and sustaining trust, promoting an ethical climate in the organization, and handling confidential and sensitive information with due care.
• Strong project and personal management skills, including the ability to work on multiple assignments concurrently, both individually and with teams.
• Ability to evaluate auditees’ internal controls by reviewing policies and procedures, conducting auditee management and personnel interviews, observing control procedures, and testing implementation of essential controls.
• Ability to think with a creative and innovative perspective, keep up to date on technologies that might enhance Office processes, and support change and improvements.
• Ability to understand and evaluate auditees’ internal controls and essential information technology systems and verify and analyze applicable auditee data.
• Ability to help audit teams conceptualize, draft, and edit financial-related messages by developing clear, concise, well-organized, appropriately detailed, and supported findings and recommendations.
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Access.
• Experience with accounting systems preferred.
