The Physician POOL provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and medical treatment procedures within statutory and regulatory provisions for assigned patients, which includes eliciting medical history, performing examinations, and stabilizing/managing medical emergencies. This position is also responsible for the provision of comprehensive health care- both preventative and therapeutic to patients as well as a full range of emergency and crisis intervention.
− Reviews medical and psychiatric history, interviews patients, makes diagnostic determinations and decisions regarding treatment plans and writes orders/prescriptions.
− Obtains complete and accurate case history, including supportive consultations when necessary and appropriate.
− Reviews and updates clinical treatment plans already in place and modifies as appropriate.
− Performs medical diagnostic examinations and evaluations; orders laboratory or clinical tests to provide further information. Administers and distributes medication to patients according to treatment plan in select cases.
− Provides medical consultations with psychiatric providers and other staff.
− Attends staff meetings relating to patient care or treatment, gives and receives medical information, participating in problem-solving and decision making.
− Keeps treatment records of patient care and ensures they are updated correctly.
− Confers with and advises facility administrators and staff in matters relating to compliance with treatment and health services regulations and progress of patient’s treatment.
− Participates in development of policies, procedures and standards for medical aspects mental health program services and medical care provision of behavioral health inpatient population.

The ideal candidate will have:
- Medical degree from an accredited school of medicine or Osteopathic medicine with completion of an approved internship and 3 years of experience beyond completion of a residency in area of specialty. May work in an institutional or correctional environment.
- Must possess a doctor's degree from an accredited School of Medicine or approved School of Osteopathic Medicine; completion of an approved Internship; and completion of an approved program as required for board eligibility in the designated specialty OR Two years of experience equivalent to a Physician I. Some assignments a Master's degree in Public health may substitute for the specialty training.
- Possession of a license to practice medicine in the State of Arizona granted by the Arizona State Board of Medical Examiners or the Arizona State board of Osteopathic Examiners.
- A State Hospital employee must be able to obtain a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card pursuant to A.R.S. § 41-1758.07.
Driving is required for State Business.
- Employees who drive on state business require possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11).
