Successful Policy Statewide Accountants are extremely comfortable completing complex assignments, which include defending and developing policies and procedures, in a fast-paced environment. They must have high amounts of self-discipline, and be able to collaborate with other employees in a direct and clear-cut manner.
Although not directly supervising others, this Statewide Accountant IV acts in a leading role in complex assignments mandated by statute which include: researching, developing, and recommending to management proposed changes to statewide accounting and payroll policies, procedures, and forms; answering policy-related inquiries on a wide variety of topics; reviewing and drafting recommendations regarding agencies policies and procedures in relation to statewide statutes and policies; review and approve transactions within the financial system; and participate as needed on various workgroups and assignments related to statewide and agency financial policies, records, and processes.
This Statewide Accountant IV should be able to apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB) theories and concepts to a statewide governmental environment. This individual provides guidance to agencies, JLBC, and OSPB in statewide problem resolution and identifies necessary changes to financial statutes. May also be required to testify in court or at the legislature on work performed and findings related to other state agencies, recommend enhancements for improvements to accounting and reporting systems, procedures, policies, and methods for inclusion in the statewide financial systems based on input from other assigned professional and/or technical staff, review and recommend approval of data collected for accuracy prior to release, and develop training content for policy-related topics. Performs other related functions as necessary.
Primarily responsible for key areas and critical assignments. Performs professional work that is greater than average difficulty and responsibility due to the complexity of research and knowledge necessary to develop and communicate policy and recommendations that comply with Federal and State laws and codes and is applicable to all size agencies within the State.

Writing samples will be requested prior to being scheduled for an interview. These samples should be personal work, not group work, and represent written policies, persuasive letters, memos, etc. If actual work is not available, samples can be created
