The ASRS Investment Division is led by Michael Viteri, Chief Investment Officer, and manages the daily investment of approximately $50 billion in assets held in a diversified investment portfolio of cash, fixed income, domestic and international equities, real estate, private equity and private credit. The ASRS Investment Division, currently comprised of 10 individuals, is responsible for managing the investments of the ASRS pension plan, Long Term Disability plan, and Health Benefits plan. Codified through the ASRS Investment Beliefs, the ASRS Investment Division oversees the actual investments, which are managed by a select group of investment managers, as well as providing internal portfolio management capabilities for select asset class mandates.

Job Summary:

The Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) is seeking a Portfolio Analyst to play an important role on the Public Equity Team. The Analyst will support the Senior Portfolio Manager in monitoring both internally and externally managed portfolios, with a focus on operational portfolio management and analysis.

Job Duties:

Essential activities:

  • Reconciliation of the internally-managed equity portfolios to ensure position and portfolio data is accurate
  • Master and administer the various portfolio management and trading systems, including Advent, MSCI Barra and Bloomberg
  • Identifies, records and prepares for corporate events as they pertain to the internally-managed equity portfolios
  • Reviews and tracks changes to benchmark indices
  • Assists with portfolio management processes including trade reconciliation, reporting and other operational activities
  • Maintains and prepares ongoing performance attribution reporting for the asset class and individual strategies
  • Provides analysis in key areas including risk monitoring, and risk/return optimizations
  • Analyzes approaches to solving investment problems, quantifying results, and recommending practical implementation approaches
  • Works collaboratively across a number of functional areas within ASRS
  • Works closely with custodial bank and other external vendors and stakeholders
Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will have:


  • Relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s degree


  • CFA and/or FRM, or other appropriate professional investment designation or progress towards designation


  • 1+ years of experience related to capital markets and institutional portfolio management
