Arizona Auditor General. Performance Audit Interns typically join our team for 12 to 15 weeks, working 20 to 40 hours per week. As an intern, you will help conduct current performance audits and follow up on previously issued audit reports of State agencies and programs. Under a lead auditor’s supervision, you will gather information and help identify areas of inquiry for your audit, perform audit procedures to obtain evidence, prepare well-documented work papers, develop findings and appropriate recommendations for improvement, and evaluate State agency efforts to implement recommendations made in audit reports. In addition, you will verbally communicate the results of your work and draft written audit findings that meet professional and Office standards for clarity and completeness. We will work with you to select a schedule within normal business hours that works best with your class schedule.
As an intern, you can expect to achieve the following:
• Develop your analytical, writing, administrative, and research skills.
• Make a difference in State government by assisting with performance audits and audit follow-up work.
• Interact with other State employees from both the Arizona Auditor General’s office and other agencies, depending on assignments.
• Develop solutions to real problems in a professional work environment.
• Potentially transition to a full-time position as a performance auditor.
Progress toward a master’s degree preferred in a field emphasizing analytical skills, research, writing, and organizing data; candidates who have completed their bachelor’s program’s intermediate classes and in their late junior or senior year will be considered.
• A current GPA standing of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Strong interest in public service and improving state government.
• Strong research abilities and oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Ability to synthesize information to reach conclusions.
• Interpersonal skills and ability to interact with coworkers and auditees professionally and
ethically.
• Willingness to take initiative.
• Positive and constructive attitude.
• Ability to professionally accept and respond to feedback.
• Organization and time management skills.
• Working knowledge of Windows, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
