Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for a Program Compliance Specialist for the Office of Environmental Services. The position is located in the Phoenix office and will report to the Environmental Services Division Compliance Program.

Under general supervision, the position is responsible for reviewing packaging labels for feed or pesticides to ensure that labels are properly formatted, have appropriate ingredients, research new or different ingredients. If labeling is incorrect this position will work with the company selling the product(s) in AZ to get the label(s) up to the regulatory standard. If a company is unwilling to update their label(s) to regulatory standards, this position will work with the compliance section to prepare appropriate regulatory paperwork.

 

Job Duties:

Duties to include but not limited to:

• Audit/review labels to determine compatibility with federal and state regulations. Documenting findings and creating standards of work.
• Train company personnel individually and perhaps multiple companies virtually on how to do prepare proper labels.
• Become familiar and stay familiar with federal and state regulations relating to pesticide and feed labels and ingredient requirements using this information in developing standards of work.
• Participate on national listservs, documenting items into a standard of work in reviewing labels and keeping information organized for use by others.
• Train department personnel on label reviews in meeting federal and state standards.
• Drive a State vehicle and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
• Administrative practices, principles of training internal and external clients
• Pesticide labeling requirements - 40 CFR and Title 3 of ARS and AAC.
• Feed labeling requirements - Title 3 of ARS and AAC
• AAFCO Official Publication
• Google work environment, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Skills in:
• Skilled in detailed review of labels to detect compliance and non-compliance
• Strong inter-personal skills (oral, written)
• Skilled in independently identifying problems and developing effective resolutions
• Skilled in training techniques and conducting training; Plan, organize, train and develop standards of work
• Strong organizational skills
• Maintain effective working relations with individuals and groups
• Dealing with customers who may be upset

Ability to:
• Effectively communicate verbally and in writing
• Ability to use a computer, with state provided equipment and software
• Sit and/or talk for extended periods of time
• Able to communicate in person, phone and by email
• Ability to work in stressful situations
• Able to deal with multiple tasks at a time. Able to prioritize competing work needs

Selective Preference(s):

Bilingual candidates who speak and read Spanish
Minimum of forty-five (45) semester units (67.5 quarter units) of college level curricula in agriculture or the sciences as prescribed in ARS R3-3-207.

Retirement:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Mandatory condition of Employment for all employees who meet the eligibility and membership criteria defined in statue. Current contribution rate is 12.00%. Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
