Job Summary:

This position resides in Human Resources and reports directly to the Department’s Workforce Success Program Manager. The Department’s workforce consists of approximately 600 employees and a large number of volunteers. The individual in this position will work to maintain organizational health by ensuring that the workforce receives required training and development opportunities and assisting in the execution of organizational development initiatives.

The Volunteer Success Coordinator will be responsible for the oversight of statewide volunteer operations for all regional and divisional activities.

Job Duties:

Major duties include:

- Provides administrative leadership for statewide volunteer operations in all 6 Regions and diverse programs across the Department.

- Develops criteria for evaluation of Volunteer Program performance.

- Mentors managers and supervisors to develop a high performing and engaged volunteer workforce.

- Provides coordination and oversight as needed for strategic planning of federal grant income.

- Partners with internal and external stakeholders to develop and improve standard practices, policies and procedures for management of volunteers.

- Provided oversight for training and recognition of volunteers.

- Conducts ongoing communication between department and volunteers as needed and assists staff in communication where appropriate.

- Works with the Risk Manager to evaluate the risks associated with volunteer and staff positions and takes appropriate action to control those risks including delivering training to volunteers, staff and volunteer supervisors.

- Maintains accurate record keeping on volunteer hours and produces reports on contribution of volunteer program as needed.

- Assists the Workforce Success Team with other activities as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

The candidate must have knowledge in management principles and evaluation techniques related to programs utilizing volunteers, marketing and program promotion techniques, job description development, adult education principles and training techniques, and data and statistical analysis.
Candidates must be skilled in organization and planning, record keeping, computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and internet usage, collaboration, leadership skills to motivate and encourage others, conflict negotiation and resolution, oral and written communication, development training materials, making presentations, problem solving and public speaking and interpersonal relations.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will be able to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers, willingness to adjust to hours to accommodate the needs of the job, effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects and responsibilities, maintain confidentiality, work independently, ability conduct self in a calm and professional manner when dealing with the public and/or difficult interpersonal situations and organize and manage a complex and varied workload.

The ideal candidate will have five years of experience in working in any of the following areas: volunteer management, human resources or communication and a degree from an institution of higher learning with major coursework in volunteer management, communication, organizational development, human resources, public administration or similar field.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Position will require a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card. Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
