Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is seeking a Program Project Specialist 1 (Testing Coordinator) at Adobe Mountain School to perform a blend of administrative, educational and testing duties. This includes the responsibility of administering the GED and other educational assessments, managing procurement for testing, overseeing state-mandated standardized testing, performing basic data analysis and maintaining student records.

Job Duties:

Administering the GED & Other Local Education Agency Assessments: This is a key part of the role, where the coordinator becomes certified to proctor official GED tests and manages other assessment programs with outside vendors. This includes pre- and post-testing the students using the Tests of Adult Basic Education. The Testing Coordinator learns how to manage the testing interfaces to create users, assign tests, receive testing results, and other duties required to operate a functional testing center. This position maintains testing security and adheres to ADJC and the outside vendors policies.

State Mandated Standardized Testing: The Testing Coordinator is responsible for administering the state’s standardized tests- ACT, AZELLA, Aspire, AZSCI, and the AASA. Duties include completing annual training, managing testing systems, coordinating the education staff to maintain a secure testing environment, and other duties as required.

Procurement: Follow the state’s procurement policies to order testing vouchers from multiple outside vendors. Occasionally, the Testing Coordinator will perform other procurement duties for the Education Bureau.

Basic Data Analysis: Collaborate with education administrators with the process of systematically inspecting, cleaning, transforming, and modeling data to discover useful information, identify patterns, and make informed decisions. This involves defining objectives, collecting and cleaning data, performing exploratory analysis and statistical methods, visualizing the findings, and then communicating the results. The goal is to gain insights that can solve problems, improve performance, and support future actions or predictions.

Student Records Technician: This job involves managing and maintaining official education records, ensuring the accuracy, security, and accessibility of data. Key responsibilities include overseeing student registration and graduation processes, maintaining databases, preparing reports and transcripts, and ensuring compliance with ADJC policies and state regulations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Characteristics of adjudicated youth and the correctional setting
  • Educational systems, organizational structure, and mission
  • Principles and practices of administration and office management
  • State and federal laws related to Education and Special Education
  • State procurement procedures and regulations.

Skill in:

  • Verbal and written communication, including adequate documentation, grammar, and spelling
  • Maintaining positive interpersonal relationships and prioritizing job assignments
  • Analyzing and interpreting data
  • Troubleshooting, problem-solving, and developing reports
  • Planning, analyzing, and coordinating activities and schedules

  • Work with staff and students professionally in a correctional environment
  • Present information concisely in both verbal and written form and speak clearly
  • Treat all people with dignity, fairness, respect, and equality
  • Meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality in all forms
  • Learn and apply agency policies and procedures, and prioritize various projects
Selective Preference(s):

Experience working with at-risk students in group settings; experience in behavioral management skills working with youth, strong communication/motivational skills and ability to relate to students of all ages.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function on the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license records checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.010).
