- Responsible for fee collections; inspection and survey equipment; health and safety of users and general public from ionizing and non-ionizing radiation; quality of licensing and inspections; timely and accurate documentation of inspection and related actions; compliance with rules and regulations; conduct program operations according to applicable rules and regulations; assist Bureau Chief in planning, developing and coordinating a comprehensive statewide radiological health and safety regulatory program and perform related work as required; plan, direct, and implement statewide emergency response efforts involving radioactive materials; supervise professional staff; complaints, identify weaknesses and needs in current rules, work with public, licensees, private business to develop new rules; respond to accidents, gather data, confer with responsible officials, recommend protective actions/cleanup procedures during a radiological accident; train new employees in radiation detection, basic radiation protection, response procedures and techniques.
- Revises and updates registration program, writes/recommends actions or policies, reviews and assesses applications and renewals for certifications, registrations, and licenses; conducts inspections, accompanies inspectors, reviews complaints, investigates/inspects results, proposes disciplinary actions for non-compliance when applicable.
- Review licenses, inspection reports, and related documents; respond to telephone and public inquiries concerning laws, regulations, health physics, and biological effects of radiation; review and propose new regulations, standards, and laws as necessary; asses radiation hazards associated with accidents and/or incidents and participate in radiological emergency responses throughout Arizona.
- Any and all duties assigned by the Bureau Chief. Manage and direct subordinate staff (work assignments, setting priorities, hiring, discipline, providing training, approving leave requests, and preparing evaluations). Assures personnel has available equipment and supplies to meet expectations. Handles personnel disputes within the program. Provides remedial training to personnel if needed.
- Evaluate resources necessary and available for environmental investigations/field investigations; maintain liaison with appropriate Federal, State, and Local agencies to ensure radiation incident responses are coordinated; plan and organize procedures of operations required for handling potential and actual radiological incidents;
- Reviews and takes responsibility for any and all work and results produced by the program. Generates changes within the program to increase the quality/quantity of program outcomes.

- Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or related field, with emphasis on a science-related curriculum (ie. health physics, math, biology) and 3 yrs. exp. at a St Hl Phy II level or 5 years of on-the-job exp. in radiation protection compliance with a State or Fed. Prgm. and 1 yr mgmt/leader role; Master's degree in Health Physics, Radiological Hygiene or related field may substitute for 1 yr. exp.
