Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is seeking Part-Time nursing applicants who are passionate about their profession and who will be committed to making a difference in the lives of Arizona’s underserved youth. Whether you are just starting out in your nursing career, or if you are a seasoned healthcare professional, ADJC wants you to come join our talented and diverse health services team. At ADJC you will have the ability to mentor and collaborate with nurses in a team oriented environment. Additionally our nurses will have the unique opportunity to work in behavioral health, public health, and emergency response settings at the Adobe Mountain School.

Job Duties:

-Evaluate and respond to youth health concerns; advise youth regarding health treatments procedures
-Obtain and process blood, urine or their sample specimens
-Monitor, records and report changes in a youth’s vitals or health condition; administer medications to youth and observe youth for potential adverse   medication reactions
-Conduct intake health screenings for newly incarcerated youth; provide direct patient and emergency care to youth; and provide emergency care to   staff when necessary
-Consult and coordinate youth treatment plans with health services team members; obtain medical files and records
-Maintain medical files and records; and ensure medical supplies and equipment are stocked and accounted for
-Administer vaccinations; assist with annual tuberculosis (TB) skin tests
-Performing other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
-Assessment/evaluation of physical and mental health needs
-Emergency procedures including Cardiopulmonary
-Resuscitation/First Aid (CPR/First Aid)
-All aspects of medication administration including monitoring for side effects
-Nursing techniques, methods, procedures and protocols
-Proper administration and reading of tuberculosis (TB) vaccinations and results
-Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules/regulations
-Current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines as it pertains to medicine

Skill in:
-Medical assessment/evaluation methods and practices including prevention of suicide
-Medical record documentation
-Verbal and written communication
-Interpersonal relationships
-Organizing workload
-Phlebotomy
-Reading vaccination test results
-Responding to emergency situations
-Computer software including but not limited to Google Suites

Ability to:
-Serve as a resource and expert in nursing care
-Observe and adhere to ADJC’s security precautions at all times and to assume responsibility for security of health unit area and equipment
-Work cooperatively with correctional custody, treatment team and medical staff
-Keep accurate and timely records and write reports
-Interpret and correctly implement health care provider’s orders
-Maintain strict confidentiality pertaining to medical/health related information
-Work with all aspects of the Arizona Nurse Practice Act scope of practice
-Submit timesheets with accuracy and on-time.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Requires possession of a valid Registered Nurse Certification without restrictions in the State of Arizona or have a valid Registered Nurse Certification from a state that participates in the Interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function on the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license records checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.010).

All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a comprehensive background investigation, behavioral assessment, drug test and pre-placement physical examination.

Current State of Arizona employees: In order to be considered for this position, it requires acceptable performance history as demonstrated by not have been issued a letter of suspension or have been involuntarily demoted within one year preceding this job posting close date, and have an overall rating of “meets expectations” or higher on the most recent employee performance evaluation.
