This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangement).

Job Summary:

We are seeking a talented and engaged intern who wants to develop beyond the classroom. In this role, you will learn the inner workings of an environmental agency’s regulations and performance measurement while honing your research, analysis, report writing and presentation skillset. Gain experience supporting a passionate team of communications and business intelligence professionals in a fast-paced environment and support the advancement of ADEQ’s strong agency brand.

Job Duties:

Intern Project: Conduct Internet and public records research on environmental regulatory performance data, measures and outcomes. Collect and analyze large data sets. Identify and extract/mine data from designated sources and reorganize it in a format that can be easily analyzed for the intended purpose. Statistically analyze and compare results. Prepare and present statistical and analytical findings in data dashboards, charts and an executive level report

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

You will bring the following to the internship:

  • Knowledge of data collection/management and data cleansing/transforming techniques; advanced mathematics and statistics; programming languages like SQL, Python, R, and Scala; business intelligence tools like Tableau.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Adobe and G Suite products; analysis and problem-solving; reporting and data visualization using statistical/visualization software and tools; and technical writing.
  • Ability to perform exploratory data analysis with large data sets; develop various statistical, analytical and dashboard reports for various users; ensure quality assurance and troubleshoot data; work independently with limited direction; and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Learn the inner workings of an environmental agency’s regulation and reporting requirements
  • Hands on experience with extracting, processing and reporting on real -world environmental data.
  • Prepare and present an executive-level report that summarizes the insights and findings of the research and analysis.
  • Lean management skills, including visual performance management and voice of customer
Selective Preference(s):
  • Intern candidate must be in their Senior year of a BS/BA or Preferred working towards a Masters/PhD program
  • Candidate must have a GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Candidate must have the right to work in the US without requiring sponsorship
  • Candidate must be at least 18 years old
