JOB SUMMARY:

The Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS) is currently seeking qualified candidates for multiple vacancies in the position of Retirement Specialist Sr.  Under the supervision of the Active Members Manager, this position is responsible to communicate with and educate members and employers on a wide variety of business specific topics ranging from general inquiries to significantly complex subject matter. Communication of this information occurs over a variety of media and settings. The Retirement Specialist Sr. is also in part or fully responsible for the calculation of benefit estimates (service purchases, transfers and refunds), research and resolution of member and employer issues, actions related to the appeals process, and basic to intermediate analysis of business statistics.

Job Duties:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS:

  • Educate members by explaining complex information related to policies, procedures, and transactions regarding membership rules and on the impact of retirement decisions.
  • Answer and rectify member account questions/concerns.
  • Service member accounts.
  • Provide member account support to divisions within PSPRS.
  • Calculate and provide estimates and distribution of retirement benefits as applicable to individual members.
  • Perform service purchase transactions and contribution accounting duties.
  • Participate as project member for operational and system analysis and enhancement processes.
  • Recommend changes and assist in the production of group meeting presentations, videos and E-Learnings.
  • Mentor new Retirement Specialists.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Public Safety Personnel Retirement System benefit programs.
  • Applicable laws (Federal and State) and policies and procedures applicable to the system.
  • Customer service techniques.
  • Basic mathematical calculations.
  • Computer programs, such as, Google Suite, Windows, Office Suite, internet, basic retirement system, banking system, and relational databases.

Skill in:

  • Interviewing to determine level of member knowledge and understanding.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Data analysis.
  • Public speaking.
  • Group facilitation.
  • Computer operations.
  • Problem solving.
  • Organization and multitasking.

Ability to:

  • Effectively explain complex policies and procedures over the phone.
  • Determine and categorize the process being requested or required.
  • Interact with the public in engaging, friendly, and helpful manner.
  • Grasp and interpret policies accurately and quickly.
  • Work effectively in a team environment and meet team objectives.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and judgment.
  • Meet deadlines with accuracy.
Selective Preference(s):
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Previous experience as a Retirement Specialist or equivalent, working in a Public Retirement System or,
  • 2-3 years of customer service experience communicating complex information.
  • Proven experience meeting call center metrics.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation to include credit and criminal history.
