Carries out all geriatric nursing care, treatment and services in a professional and prescribed manner; provides a safe, therapeutic and hygienic environment. Provides a variety of nursing care for infirm geriatric residents; oversees and trains staff in specific resident care; observes and assesses residents' behavior and physical conditions; administers medical treatment and intervention according to the plan of care; acts as lead or performs limited supervision on an assignment. In the event the Geriatric Nurse II position is the charge nurse, the incumbent oversees the functions of all licensed staff on the unit as well as the Certified Nursing Assistants. Learns, implements and monitors Arizona Management System (AMS) methods. Uses AMS concepts and tools for problem solving and continuous work/process improvements and efficiencies. Incorporates a cultural focus on Veteran/Member-centered care in the performance of job duties.

• Administers medication and performs treatments on an assigned unit as ordered by the physician and within scope of license. Medications may be in a variety of forms including oral, enteral, parenteral, suppository, etc. Treatments may include sterile and aseptic wound cleaning and dressing, postural drainage and percussion, tracheostomy, gastrostomy and jejunostomy care, and catheter care. Assesses effectiveness of medications and treatment.
• Receives and delivers a variety of information regarding the residents' medical, social, functional and other needs. Participates in the receiving and giving of shift reports. Communicates with residents, family and staff as necessary to ensure the resident receives appropriate care from the interdisciplinary team.
• Performs the initial admission nursing assessment on a newly admitted resident. Assists with the development of the Minimum Data Set [MDS] assessments, ongoing quarterly reviews, and care plans.
• Maintains appropriate clinical and administrative documentation regarding diagnosis, assessments, treatment and summary of client progress.
• Leads and performs limited supervision of subordinate staff and assists as needed with direct resident care for the completion of Activities of Daily Living [ADLs] including bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, personal hygiene and mobility.
• Conducts and participates in in-service training and staff development programs for regularly employed staff and other duties as assigned. Learns, implements and monitors Arizona Management System (AMS) methods. Utilizes AMS concepts and tools for problem solving and work process improvements.
• Actively participates in AMS processes such as Huddle Boards, Problem Solving, Job Breakdown Sheets, Success Tracking, and Standardized Work. Fully participates in the QAPI program, our Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement, which incorporates AMS concepts.

• Federal, state and agency laws, rules and regulations governing general professional nursing practices and the security and control of medical supplies and medications and dispensing thereof

• Ability to learn, implement and monitor AMS methods, and to use AMS concepts and tools for problem solving and continuous work/process improvement and efficiency
• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships
  

• At least 2 years of long term care experience

• Must possess an active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Arizona
• Must be able to obtain and retain a fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety
• May be required to drive on State duty, valid driver's license is required

• Current Negative Tb skin test (Mantoux skin test) within the last 6 months or a written statement from a physician, physician’s assistant or a registered nurse practitioner indicating freedom from tuberculosis, if in the past has had a positive skin test or tuberculosis
