ASDB was founded in 1912 – the year of Arizona’s statehood. ASDB serves over 2,000 children who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing or deafblind from birth to grade 12. ASDB operates two schools for the deaf, one school for the blind, our statewide Early Learning Program which includes birth to three and preschool programs, and Itinerant Services for students attending a school with one of our district partners. Job Description:


The School Bus CDL Driver is responsible for safely operating the school bus according to a set daily schedule. He/she must ensure that the school bus is in good operating condition at all times, pick up and drop off students as per the schedule, maintain order and security on the bus and obeys all laws, regulations and rules of conduct. The School Bus Driver must also deal with residents and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner. This includes receiving complaints about schedules and levels and quality of service. The School Bus Driver must make note of and report on any such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner. It is critical for School Bus Driver to operate the School Bus in a safe manner. Failure to ensure the safe passage of students to and from school may result in serious liabilities for the School. Operating in an unsafe manner may result in injury or even the loss of life, which would have tragic consequences for the community as a whole. Position is responsible for operating a school bus and transporting school-aged children and other authorized personnel safely and efficiently over specified routes to and from schools and various activities. Position conducts pre-trip/post-trip inspections, observes safety regulations and policies, enforces student discipline on the bus, and performs related work.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:


Minimum of 2 years driving experience.
May require ASL training per ASDB policy.
Participate in required monthly and certified training for a CDL driver based on minimum standards.

 

Important Note:

School bus drivers are tasked with the vital responsibility of protecting our students on their way to and from school.
School bus drivers are the most highly trained, tested and scrutinized drivers on the road, requiring a CDL and Passenger and Student endorsements.


School bus drivers are required to know their students and be aware of their different disabilities in order to make their transportation times as comfortable and safe as possible.


School bus drivers carry the most precious cargo: our children. Drivers and assistants make sure that students get to school and back home safely every day.


School Bus Drivers are the first school workers to greet students in the morning and the last to wave goodbye to them in the afternoon.
School Bus Drivers must obtain a Class “B” Commercial Drivers License (C.D.L.) with Passenger (P), School Bus (S) and Air Brake (A) endorsements. L BUS DRIVER (1 Vacancy)


LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and then maintain a Class B CDL with a P and S endorsement.
Must pass physical and drug screens.
Positions working directly with students must obtain CIT (Crisis Intervention Training) CPR and First Aid Certification.
Valid Arizona State Drivers License in good standing as provided by a 39 month report run by the MVD.
Must be able to pass a post offer physical performance test.
Must be willing to participate in annual and random drug and alcohol testing.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Policies, procedures, and programs of the immediate work unit
Principles and practices of administration and management
Agency or program rules, regulations, and operating procedures
Arizona rules/regulations related to pupil transportation.

FMSCA rules and regulations of operating a school bus
School Bus evacuation drills
Proper wheelchair tie down and lift protocol


DEMONSTRATED SKILL/ABILITY TO:
Reading of gauges and indicators of a vehicle and to prepare a report.
Operate assigned vehicle in a safe manner and by the statutes of Arizona
Maintain courteous and professional manner
Follow scheduled route within allotted timeline.
Communicate information and ideas effectively so others will understand.\


SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION:
This position requires pre-employment drug testing and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of employment.
