The Arizona Department of Correction, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a Chaplain to guide the religious accommodation of inmates. In collaboration with subordinate Chaplains, this position manages, coordinates, develops, plans, and organizes all religious programs within a prison.
- Supervises, coordinates, directs, develops, and conducts a wide variety of religious programs and services within the institution
- Develops and manages religious programs and ensures activities are conducted in accordance with ADCRR policies and procedures
- Interviews, counsels, and/or responds to inmate inquiries and letters regarding religious activities/services
- Coordinates religious diet program including verification of eligibility and develops tracking mechanisms
- Supervises subordinate Chaplains.
- Administers work evaluations, delegates assignments, coordinates leave to ensure coverage, develops work schedules, verifies work hours, provides mentoring and guidance, recommends hiring and disciplinary actions
- Attends and/or conducts meetings, training, and conferences
- Sits on committees and boards as directed
- Develops positive relationships with local clergy and faith-based organizations
- Actively recruits religious volunteers as needed
- Coordinates clearances for religious visitors
- Coordinates background clearances and issuance of volunteer identification cards
- Develops budget requests and recommendations for material/supply purchases
- Maintains and develops a variety of reports and documentation
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

- Write clear, concise reports and maintain accurate documentation
- Prefer Master’s Degree from a Council of Higher Education Association (CHEA) accredited seminary or school of theology with a major in psychology, religion, pastoral care, religious counseling, or related field and two years supervisory experience
- One (1) or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education
Candidate MUST present proof of ordination or certification at time of application and denominational endorsement at time of appointment or within six months of original hire date.
Requires possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).
Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, and drug test.
