This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangement).

Salary: $95,000 - $100,000 

Grade: 26

The Senior Environmental Science Specialist will be responsible for developing accurate and complete State Implementation Plans (SIPs), including pollutant-specific nonattainment area, infrastructure, and rule-based SIPs, as required by the Clean Air Act. Using knowledge of various scientific disciplines, including meteorology, law, air pollution control techniques, and rule writing, the Senior ESS will synthesize data and regulatory actions into SIPs that ultimately protect air quality in Arizona. 

• Knowledge of environmental research, State and Federal environmental regulations, environmental rulemaking process, environmental planning in air quality, Arizona’s sources of air pollution, air pollution control techniques, and Agency policies and processes
• Ability to follow guidance documents, and other technical instructions in performance of tasks; to understand and apply environmental rules and statutes; to prepare concise and accurate SIPs for and to present those findings in public meetings; and to balance, prioritize and organize multiple tasks and complete assignments by applicable deadlines

• Bachelor’s degree or above in law, environmental science/resource management/planning/policy, sustainability, or urban planning
• 12 years’ experience (a Masters’ degree may substitute for 2 years’ experience or a Doctorate for 4 years’ experience)
• A Qualified Environmental Professional certification through the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice (ipep.org) is required. Or professional certification through an accredited institution, or the ability to obtain a QEP certification within one year of hire.
