The Department of Ecnomic Security, Division of Technology Services is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to serve as a Server Cloud Administrator, responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. Participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. Ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational policies business requirements.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Installs, monitors, and directs proactive and reactive computer network defense measures to ensure the availability, integrity, confidentiality and reliability of systems
  • Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs. Pro-actively solves complex problems
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Conducts daily traffic analysis, identifies and characterizes incidents, generates incident reports, and investigates suspicious network activity
  • Assist project teams with technical issues in the initiation and planning phases of our standard Project Management Methodology. Activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research and development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions
  • Participates on projects is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operation activities within the project life-cycle. Accountable for Linux and Windows systems that support file and print; Linux, Windows and application systems that divisional programs utilize; Responsible for system operations and support, maintenance and research, and development to ensure continual innovation
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Various infrastructure technologies and in-house developed applications utilized in the enterprise
  • System monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities
  • Configure / add new services as necessary
  • Perform advanced design, maintenance and repair of servers
Selective Preference(s):

This ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in computer related assignments with software and hardware
  • Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Unix and/or Microsoft a plus
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Travel may be required for State business. Employees who drive on state business must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.) AND have an acceptable driving record for the last 39 months including no DUI, suspension or revocations and less than 8 points on your license. If an Out of State Driver License was held within the last 39 months, a copy of your MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) is required prior to driving for State Business. Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.
  • All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
  • Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
  • Employee shall obtain and maintain a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card that meets the DES requirements for a Level One card pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-1969.
  • Bachelor’s degree or 3 or more years of experience in systems administration (or equivalent experience).

Retirement:

State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement. You will also have the option to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation program to take advantage of tax-deferred retirement investments.
