We are looking for a high-energy, safety-conscious Range Master to lead the action at our Clay Target Center.

Passion for Shooting Sports: Solid knowledge of firearms, archery, and range safety protocols.

Technical Aptitude: Experience in, or ability to learn, mechanical/electrical maintenance for clay target machines and basic, general facility maintenance.

The Logistics
Schedule: Includes mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Environment: Fast-paced and outdoors (exposure to extreme heat/cold, wind, rain, dust).
Requirements: Ability to legally possess a firearm 8 U.S. Code § 922(g) and successfully pass a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance check, along with pre-employment medical screening.
The Range Master will be responsible for overseeing public shooting at the Clay Target Center and providing information and services regarding firearms techniques, hunter education, and public relations.
Major duties may include:
- Completing assignments independently with little supervision and representing management and the Department on a shift-by-shift basis in his/her absence;
- Enforce range safety procedures and standards, detect and report vandalism and trespass infractions;
- Detect and fix maintenance issues, including troubleshooting clay target machines, pulling trash, cleaning brass/hulls, and performing basic landscaping duties. Oversee the daily activities of volunteer Range Safety Officers and assist and instruct the public on firearms use and safety.
- Instruct the general public in the various clay target disciplines.
- Load and maintain clay target machines;
- Assist in the operation of corporate events, registered tournaments, and other events on the range;
- Directly responsible for the operation and safe use of the public shooting facilities;
- Provides program and range information and aids in interpreting rules and regulations to customers;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The candidate will know methods and procedures of firearms safety and education information; have knowledge of firearms and archery. Knowledge of construction, mechanical/electrical maintenance, or related fields is a plus. The candidate must be skilled and have the ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of customers visiting the facility and successfully meet their needs; have excellent communication skills with a strong customer service focus; must have the ability to work well with other employees and diverse user groups, and resolve conflicting issues.
The desired candidate will have experience working with the public in a high-volume, high-stress environment and possess strong customer service skills.
Employment is contingent on receipt of a level 1 fingerprint clearance card. Employment is also contingent upon completion of a post-offer medical/physical examination and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions. Medical/Physical examination will include baseline blood lead and zinc levels and a baseline hearing test, all of which will be conducted on an annual basis.

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
