Your efforts in recruiting youth and training volunteer coaches directly ensure the continued funding of habitat restoration, species protection, and outdoor recreation access for all Arizonans.

The Shooting Sports Program Coordinator is responsible for providing consultative services, technical guidance and administrative expertise to statewide shooting sports program and Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) teams in Arizona. Provides outreach, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of youth recruitment shooting sports programs. Manages program budget and procurement and provides oversight of an extensive asset inventory. Role involves volunteer recruitment and coordination, conducting on boarding and coach training.
Major duties include:
- Maintain existing AZGFD SCTP clubs and programs in the state. Monitors and evaluates program content, safety compliance within laws and regulations, expenditures and trends to assist in improving program focus, developing annual work plans and composing performance reports.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers to conduct the Department's shooting sports programs within policy guidelines and safety standards.
- Conducts shooting sports workshops, in-service training and public presentations to generate a well informed and skilled instructor cadre to support state shooting sports programs.
- Coordinates and schedules shooting sports program activities with coaches, institutions, and organizations to ensure program success and growth.
- Promotes the shooting sports program and represents the Department on external committees and work groups to maintain awareness of emerging trends and policies.
- Conducts shooting sports events to promote outdoor recreation, and programmatic expansion.
- This position will require frequent statewide travel
- Perform multiple tasks and priorities statewide while meeting assigned deadlines and other duties as assigned.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures with a requirement to come into the office a minimum of 3 days each week at 5000 W. Carefree Hwy. Phoenix, AZ 85086.
The candidate should have knowledge of/in: program planning, design, implementation and evaluation. Knowledge in volunteer recruitment, coordination, and supervision. Experience in the shooting sports industry, trends and regional trends. Basic computer skills including database management, presentation development, and data management. Knowledge of procurement functions and budget management. Basic firearm safety practices, coaching and mentoring techniques, and asset management. Knowledge of state, and federal resources related to shooting sports. Understanding of hunting in Arizona.
The candidate should have skill in/to: program management, managing multiple priorities and the ability to motivate others. Basic familiarization with firearms. Experience in developing formal communications, correspondence and presentations for public speaking. Interpersonal skills in working collaboratively to build consensus. Must have skills in conflict resolution and customer service; supervision; mentoring; delegation.
The candidate must have the ability to: plan, coordinate and establish priorities; create compelling reports and presentations. Ability to manage data to report on program execution.
The preferred candidate will have two years of experience related to competitive shooting industry, event management, or similar industry trade associations.
A Level 1 fingerprint clearance card is required within 6 months of hire.
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
