Job Summary:

Supervises and/or performs the inspection, maintenance and repair duties of all items related to maintain the I-10 Deck Park Tunnel. The position is to oversee the continues maintenance and to assure the tunnel continues to allow safe passage to the driving public. This position requires the employee to participate in rotation based on 24 hour call back program.

Job Duties:
  • Perform and supervise the maintenance of the tunnel lighting, ventilation, back-up power, fire systems, cameras, drainage, communications systems and monitoring systems.

  • Plan work assignments for crews. Document work performed and/or inspected. Evaluates employee performance, hire staff and administer progressive discipline, coach and mentor subordinate staff. Confers and coordinates with other crew members and other Units.

  • Works with on call contracts and contractors on maintenance projects and emergency repairs. This will include coordinating with Procurement to
    establish any needed contracts. Request, review and approve quotes for scheduled maintenance and for emergency repairs.

  • Review project plans, materials and equipment acquisition and organize external resources. Red line plans and infrastructure database management.

  • Ensure subordinates receive all applicable training.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge in

  • Use, care and maintenance of common and specialized tools use in the maintenance of the tunnel.
  • Knowledge of national and local electrical codes including high voltage, control systems for ventilation and fire and mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, fiber optics, and networking.

Skill in

  • Applying and making interpretation of federal, state and agency laws, rules regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to work activities, safe practices and public contact.
  • Skilled in electrical wiring and repair, using proper materials and tools, vehicles, and equipment to perform work activities within and around
    the tunnel.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication, problem solving and interpersonal relationships.
  • Fundamental knowledge in reading and understanding blueprints, sketches, schematics.
  • Methods and procedures for installing, repairing, and diagnosing equipment and appurtenances related to the tunnel
  • Applying electrical and electronic principles.

Ability in

  • Able to comprehend directions, work independently, use proper materials, tools vehicles and equipment specific to the work activity.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate analyze and perform multiple tasks.
  • To learn computer systems, practices and procedure, federal, state and agency laws, rules, regulation, polices and procedures pertaining to work activities.
  • Able to comply with all safety rules, regulations and establish practices
  • Perform basic project planning and coordination, conduct material quantity take offs for repairs.
  • Apply self-study in increase and expand knowledge base and to communicate effectively with public contacts and customers.
Selective Preference(s):
  • Associates degree in a applicable field of study
  • Supervisor level electrical/electronics/mechanical background
