What You'll Do:
Under the direction of the Organizational Performance Administrator and the Assistant Director of Prevention Services, the Strategic Initiatives Lead will develop and implement strategic initiatives.
You will be responsible for implementing public health strategies, plans, and programs for the department and the Division of Public Health Prevention Services.
As the Strategic Initiatives Lead, you will direct efforts as a project manager, facilitator, and trainer. It is a collaborative role designed to initiate and lead key efforts and requires an understanding of health equity, strategic planning, project management, and partner collaboration. Initiative topics may include mental well-being, adverse childhood experiences, social determinants of health, and health in all policies.
-Leading and reporting on collaborative strategic initiatives aligned with the agency’s mission, vision, and values, including the Arizona Health Improvement Plan (AzHIP) and breakthrough projects. Coordinates and facilitates meetings and communication on projects and plans supporting Prevention bureaus.
-Provides leadership in collaborative planning with a variety of internal and external partners on the development and communication of Prevention initiatives and special projects.
-Leads development and communication of quality improvement (QI) planning and implementation, including support of programs on performance management and strategic planning.
-Responsible for guiding direction to prepare and deliver reports. Completes requirements established by funding, including grant deliverables.
-Increasing the agency’s capacity to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of practices, partnerships, programs, use of resources, and the impact the systems’ improvements have on the public’s health.
- Principles and practices of public health practices, statistics, and program evaluation.
- Federal, state, and local grants; and regulatory methodologies.
- State government and management practices; state laws, regulations, rules, contracts, policies, and requirements related to public health.
- Motivational techniques and goal setting.
-Performance Management (PM), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), and Lean methodologies.

Bachelor's degree in a related field and 7 years of work experience in strategic planning, public health programs, and project management. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master's Degree in Public Health, Organizational Development, Business, Public Administration, or equivalent and will substitute for 3 years of work experience.
Employees who drive on state business require possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete any driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11).

To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit. The State will contribute to the ASRS in an amount equal to your contribution. In other words, you and the State will each pay 50% of the total cost of the benefit. New State employees have a 27-week wait period for contributions to begin.
