Under the general direction of the Bridge Inspection Leader and under close guidance of the Registered Professional Bridge Inspection Engineer, the person in this position is a team member performing statewide inspections of bridges and structures throughout the State of Arizona. These inspections are performed according to the National Bridge Inspection Standards and to pre-established schedules. Writes inspection reports and recommends required repairs and maintenance in consultation with and approval of a professionally registered bridge inspection engineer.
Updates bridge inventory data and digitizes bridge inspection report documents using federally mandated Bridge Management (BrM) software. Seeks, receives and implements advice obtained from bridge inspection engineer on complex and difficult bridge inspection issues. Maintains high quality standards and ethics in all work assignments. Assists other bridge inspection teams with their work when requested. Helps with office work in reviewing and updating data when necessary or directed by superfors.
Attends periodic bridge inspection related and other mandated training. Takes active part in section meetings and contributes to form policies related to various issues. Communicates with internal and external customers effectively. Promotes teamwork, and values of accountability, integrity and respect. Leads by example.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Performs bridge inspection as a team member in the inspection of state and local agency structures in accordance with National Bridge Inspection standards INBIS). Drives State vehicle in performance of these inspection duties. Writes inspection reports according to ADOT Bridge Inspection Guidelines and completes all related report documents.
Discusses bridge inspection findings with the Professional Bridge Inspection Engineer and finalizes all of the related documents based on the engineer's approval. Communicates with internal and external customers. Attends monthly bridge inspection section meetings and participates in drafting bridge inspection procedures.
Attends periodic bridge inspection and other mandated training. Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge of:
*Principles and practices of Civil Engineering as applied to bridge inspection.
*Bridge types, components and material properties.
*State and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requirements for bridge inspections.
*Computer use and operation.
Skill in:
*Verbal and written communication.
*Interpersonal relationships.
*Taking photos for documenting inspections.
*Understanding and interpreting departmental policies and procedures
Ability to:
*Ability to perform computer operations using bridge related software applications.
*Gather and evaluate data
*Climb up and down sloped landscape while carrying equipment
Successful completion of an FHWA approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course and experience in one of the following areas; bridge inspection or advanced engineering records maintenance.
A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field may substitute for the require
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
A valid state Driver's license with an acceptable 39 month driving history.
