Job Summary:

This position will work as a field and lab technician under the direct supervision of the Structures Lab Supervisor. This position will perform engineering construction inspection, sampling and testing for major prestress/precast concrete structures, as well as minor precast items, such as concrete pipe, precast box culverts, MSE panels, retaining walls, manhole materials, etc. The technician will also inform the supervisor or Manager of any materials issues or deficiencies found or witnessed during production. The technician will verify calibration of testing equipment, and maintain project materials records. The technician will maintain equipment and facilities. Duties may require the technician to work weekends, holidays, and varied work hours, in all weather conditions. Duties may require overnight and extended overnight travel to perform sampling and testing.

Job Duties:

Perform engineering construction inspection, sampling, and testing for mayor prestress/precast concrete structures. Daily decisions concerning material and quality of final products conform to plans and specifications.

Sampling and testing using ASTM, AASHTO and/or AZ test methods to determine compliance with applicable specifications.

Perform engineering construction inspection, sampling and testing for minor precast and concrete structures including concrete pipe, precast box culverts, MSE panels, retaining walls, manhole materials, etc.

Review plans and specifications.

Notify supervisor of conflicts in contract documents for omissions, errors and/or beneficial changes.

Instruct and train employees.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

Engineering principles and practices related to duties assigned

Plans, specifications and technical review. Knowledge of construction inspection methods, procedures and techniques

Materials sampling and testing procedures based on AASHTO, ASTM, AZ test methods, AZ STD Specifications

Technical Math

Operation of complex instruments and testing equipment

Skills in:

Technical math

Interacting with customers, vendors, and other employee in a team environment

Evaluate materials per visual inspection and technical journals

Research of materials and construction practices

Set up and preparation for material testing

Ability to:

Analyze Highway and Structural blueprints Evaluate materials testing results for compliance

Working safety in a construction area with cranes, ladders, travel lifts, concrete delivery vehicles adjacent to inspection areas

Withstand extreme temperatures during inspections

Selective Preference(s):

ACI Field Testing Certification, ACI Strength Testing Certification, ATTI Soils and Aggregate Certification, Prestress Concrete Institute QC/QA Level II Certification, Post Tension Instate "Bonded" Certification, NICET Level II Concrete Certified. Five years experience working at a Precast plant.
