Under the direction of the Bridge Design Services Manager, lead staff in maintaining and updating bridge guidelines, standards, details, and specifications. Provides technical support on the application of AASHTO and ADOT bridge design guidelines. Serves as project manager for the on-call steel fabrication inspection program and as QA Manager for bridge design, ensuring compliance with QC/QA procedures and documentation. Models ADOT values through leadership, coaching, and continuous improvement.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Serve as chair of the Bridges and Structures Subcommittee and coordinate its activities regarding task assignments under ADOT’s Project Delivery and Operations Standard Committee. Monitor schedules and provide status reports to the Standards Committee. Develop new or review existing bridge standard drawings, guidelines, and specifications. Serve as Quality Assurance (QA) Manager for bridge design projects. Implement and track ADOT’s Bridge Design Quality Guidelines process to ensure on-time completion and meet the project schedule milestones.
Manage compliance reviews and coordinate assignments related to bridge design plans, engineering studies, reports, estimates, and special provisions developed both internally and externally. Ensures completeness, accuracy, compatibility, and adherence to applicable design. Represent the Bridge Group at technical committees, task forces, and research projects. Maintain communication within the team, between sections, groups, staff, agencies, and the public through personal contact, reports, correspondence, and meetings. Provides assistance to the Group on matters involving litigation. Manage the steel fabrication inspection program by coordinating with on-call consultants and construction resident engineers. Monitor the program schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure efficient operation and compliance with project requirements.
Participate in the development and maintenance of Bridge Design processes and procedures. Provide updates and review the Bridge Group websites. Create Bridge Group bulletins to notify stakeholders of publication releases, update, and revisions to Bridge Group guidelines, standards, and other bridge-related memoranda.

A valid Arizona Driver's license with an acceptable 39 month MVR history. - This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
Registered Professional Engineer (Civil) in the State of Arizona or candidate(s) will be required to meet registration requirements set forth by the Arizona Technical Board of Registration and attain an Arizona PE from the Board within 6 months of employment start date.
A minimum of B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. A minimum of two years of experience as a senior bridge engineer (DT Transportation Engineer I) or a minimum of four years of experience as a transportation engineer specialist.
