Under the supervision of the Resident Engineer (RE), performs a variety of engineering related duties such as: monitors and evaluates contract compliance in regard to ADOT Standard specifications, standard drawings, project specific special provisions and plans, as well as Federal Highway Administration's, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and US Department of Labor regulations and laws. Schedules, assigns, and reviews work of lower level inspection personnel. Assists the RE in the review of construction submittals and documentation; scheduling, monitoring and mentoring inspection staff, and serves as the primary contact for contractors, consultants and ADOT employees on construction projects. Ensuring inspectors accurately document work detailed in the plans and specifications.

Performs a variety of engineering related duties including directing, coordinating and monitoring work activities as assigned, Plans and directs work activities of other team members. Use a state vehicle in the course of job duties. Review plans,& standards, policies. Ensure compliance with ADOT standard specifications, standard drawings and project specific special provision and plans, as well as applicable Federal laws, rules. And policies and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality requirements
Confirms and verifies all quantities and measurements related to work activities assigned. Prepares and approves documentation related to work activities for monthly estimates.
Consults with contractors and other agency personnel to resolve construction related issues. Escalates issues as necessary. Assists with winter weather emergencies or other emergencies as assigned, including working dispatch to communicate roadway conditions and incidents to appropriate departments; or assisting in road block/traffic control during inclement weather or emergency conditions.

A Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or closely related profession may be substituted for the required experience.

Valid Driver's License - This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
