The Department of Economic Security, Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services (DERS) performs an integral role in improving Arizona’s workforce by assisting individuals who are unemployed or underemployed, and those with barriers, to prepare for and obtain meaningful employment. DERS supports Arizona employers with recruitment assistance by connecting them to a skilled workforce.
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Workforce Specialist 3 with the Workforce Development Administration (WDA). This position is responsible for providing a wide range of staff-assisted employment services to applicants and job seekers.
- Interviewing job applicants to obtain information about job skills and qualifications for job placement.
- Supporting Entered Employment goals.
- Assessing job seeker's work history, skills, knowledge, abilities and interest, to make appropriate job matches and referrals to job openings, training, and support services.
- Discussing career opportunities, and developing employment plans.
- Writing and and entering employer job orders on the Arizona Virtual One Stop (VOS) database system.
- Contacting employers by telephone or email to obtain results of job referrals and to job develop other openings.
- Searching applicant files to locate qualified applicants for referral to job openings.
- Travelling to conduct presentations at orientations and workshops to explain program services and information available within the Workforce Development system, and to represent the program at job fairs, community events, and chamber of commerce functions.
- The Program Service Evaluator 3/Workforce Specialist 3 is the advanced journey level class in the Program Service Evaluator Series. It is distinguished from the Program Service Evaluator 2/Workforce Specialist 2 by the the incumbent's responsibility for serving as a technical expert, or performing lead responsibilities.
- Knowledge of Federal and State employment service laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of social, cultural, and economic conditions of the area(s) served, and specialized program knowledge in relation to employment and trainings.
- Knowledge of interviewing techniques, occupations, occupational requirements and impacts, resources and support services in the community, computers and computer software applications.
- Verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, public speaking and presentation, problem resolution, decision-making, customer service, policy interpretation, data gathering and analytical skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Two years' public contact and customer service work experience.
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Applicants for this position will be required to provide a copy of their Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card, or obtain one prior to receiving a job offer.
- In-state travel is required, and requires the possession of and ability to retain, a valid state-issued driver's license, personal motor vehicle insurance, and a clean driving record. If the employee is required to use their personal vehicle for state business, mileage will be reimbursed.
