(Program & Project Specialist II)
The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is seeking a Youth Behavior Support Coordinator to create a positive, structured environment that promotes prosocial behavior among youth. The Coordinator leads the development and oversight of the facility-wide positive behavior support framework (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports - PBIS).
The Youth Behavior Support Coordinator is a vital member of the Adobe Mountain School staff, working as part of the Programming team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys planning events and incentive activities, can inspire staff, and operate independently with significant decision-making freedom within the ADJC framework.
Plan and coordinate routine activities and rewards that incentive positive behavior and keeps youth motivated
Organize special events and celebrations that make positive behavior rewarding
Coordinate incentive delivery
Ensure tiered support systems (universal, targeted, and intensive) are appropriate and utilized effectively
Create behavioral expectations, teaching tools, and reinforcement systems that are practical and developmentally appropriate
Serve as liaison between teams and bureaus
Coordinate with education staff to align classroom management with facility-wide behavioral expectations
Collaborate with direct care supervisors to reinforce PBIS strategies during all programming and daily living activities
Ensure practices align with agency policies and relevant framework standards
Provide engaging, practical training to staff on positive behavior support principles
Coach and model strategies to help staff effectively utilize incentive programming and build confidence in their interactions with youth
Create easy-to-use reference materials and visual aids for consistent implementation across all areas
Facilitate team check-ins to problem-solve and resolve issues
Monitor implementation quality through observation, data review, and feedback
Maintain systems for tracking behavioral data and measuring program effectiveness
Analyze data trends to guide decisions about incentives, targeted supports, and resource allocation
Communicate data findings with leadership
KNOWLEDGE
Understanding of adolescent development and what motivates young people
Familiarity with positive behavior support frameworks and evidence-based behavioral interventions
Understanding of juvenile justice systems and best practices
Basic knowledge of secure care environments, including safety and security protocols
Familiarity with data collection and analysis
SKILLS
Creativity and enthusiasm for planning events and incentive programming
Strong communication skills — written, verbal, and in front of a group
Confidence in training and engaging staff
Coaching and mentoring skills
Data analysis and report writing
Proficiency in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides or equivalent
Organization and project management

Three years experience in a juvenile correctional facility preferred.
Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a comprehensive background investigation and drug screening.
Current State of Arizona employees: In order to be considered for this position, it requires acceptable performance history as demonstrated by not have been issued a letter of suspension or have been involuntarily demoted within one year preceding this job posting close date, and have an overall rating of “meets expectations” or higher on the most recent employee performance evaluation.
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function on the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license records checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.010).
